One Tuesday every month, I’m going to round up a couple (maybe a few) awesome display typefaces to showcase and give a little breakdown on each one. If you have a suggestion you want me to take a look at, drop me a line. Let’s jump straight into some headline goodness.
Codswallop
Foundry : Hanoded
Designer(s) : David Kerkhoff
Cost: $20 per style
First on this month’s eye catching menagerie is Codswallop. And it’s not just because of the name. Something about the rough edges of hand drawn — or made to look hand drawn — type just pulls me in. The font has its limitations as the uppercase and lowercase letters are identical, but it does have accented characters, basic fl and fi ligatures, and numerals built for fractions. I love the weight and heavy handedness of it. The reason I’m mentioning Codswallop though is because it has a family.

That leaves room for playing crazy like the example below. Also, check out that freaking awesome @ symbol. Try it out yourself over on MyFonts.
I thought about showing off Florentin 2D. But now that I came back and looked at it some more, I’m a little iffy. It’s got an interesting idea going on with the extra choppy gravure style. Maybe it’ll grow on me and I’ll come back to it again. Take a look at it and tell me what you think in the comments.
The final mention for this week’s Headline Heads Up goes out FontDeals.com — a new project started by Jay Hilgert of Bittbox.com and Brush Pilot™. It’s an absolutely crazy deal on a whole handful of fonts. $49 for 29 font files. And these are some awesome looking and well crafted fonts. I’ve purchased my set and am still wading through the possibilities for the range of applications. It’s just too good a deal to pass up. Go check it out! Remember, there’s 24 more fonts included in the pack than what I’m showing below! It’s crazy.
You are the greatest website guy. Thanks for all the hardwork!!!
